Turk's Head: Step-By-Step


These step-by-step instructions explain the process of tying a long Turk's Head weave of two, three or four bights. Each time a new step begins, a change in direction has occurred.

2 Bight Weave
Step A1: Wrap (x) revolutions around an object.
Step A2: Cross all lines back to the standing end.
Step B1: Keep the running end parallel to the right of A1, cross all lines, cross the bight at the bottom of the knot.
Step B2: Tuck the running end under the next line you come to, weave over 1/ under 1, cross the bight at the top of the knot.
Step C1: Place the running end to the right of the standing end to complete 1 pass.

3 Bight Weave
Step A1: Wrap (x) revolutions around an object.
Step A2: Weave under 1/ over 1, cross the bight at the top of the knot.
Step B1: Weave under 1/ over 1, cross the bight at the bottom of the knot.
Step B2: Cross the next line you come to, weave under 2/ over 2, cross the bight at the top of the knot.
Step C1: Cross the next line you come to, weave under 2/ over 2, cross the bight at the bottom of the knot.
Step C2: Weave under 1/ over 1, cross the bight at the top of the knot.
Step D1: Place the running end to the right of the standing end to complete 1 pass.

4 Bight Weave
Complete Steps A1 – B2 of the 2 Bight Long Turks Head Weave.
Step C1: Place the running end parallel to the right of the standing end and follow the weave of A1, cross the bight at the bottom of the knot.
Step C2: Cross the bight you were following in the previous step, weave under 1/ over 2, cross the bight at the top of the knot.
Step D1: Cross the next line you come to, weave under 1/ over 2, cross the bight at the bottom of the knot.
Step D2: Weave under 1/ over 1, cross the bight at the top of the knot.
Step E1: Place the running end to the right of the standing end to complete 1 pass.
